I've mentioned before on here about my mother in law and that she's got dementia and is in a nursing home. Well unfortunately she's becoming incontinent and we having to buy her the appropriate pants for this I was looking on the internet at whats available and they were selling radar keys for disabled toilets. Now, I may not know how you would normally go about getting a key but I would of thought that being they are for disabled people you would have to have some sort of recognised medical condition to obtain one.

If it is so easy to obtain one of these keys, well I am sure that what is meant for people like us who need to use these facilities because of mobility problems it could be abused by the general public. It's normally free to use disabled toilets but not general ones.

Paula like you I am amazed at how easy you can obtain the radar key, as you say anyone can have one. When i applied for my blue badge, which i had to supply letter to prove i needed this, from consultant / surgeon or GP i asked all 3 as you never know who will answer, in the end i got 3 and sent all 3, i got the badge, whoops sorry this is a bit long.

I also purchased a radar key as i was in wheelchair at the time, i must admit i never used it i never came across a toilet needing one, the loos in the shopping centre where i live closed down, ha ha so its a cafe or a pub.

Toilets are a major issue where ever i go as i always need to loo when out.
I do hope there are plenty where you live, and that they are clean! lol lol

I think part of the major reason for this NOT being a cause for concern is the fact abuse is not that much of an issue , as compared to abuse of disabled parking bays for example.

The black market for this would be very minimal , since most of the RADAR toilets are next to normal public conveniences .
I wish all disability "bonuses" were as easy to get .

Whilst I agree with you Rich, in the great scheme of things it does seem minor, but it's the principal of them being abused that I don't like. They are there for a purpose and they must cost more money that a normal public convenience. There must be loads of things that they can be used for if the keys got into the wrong hands..........drug users..........people to sleep in a night (not that that is too bad) etc..etc.
